Second Grade reading & spelling words
Second grade is where spelling gets tricky, because English starts offering several ways to write the same sound. These weeks work through vowel teams (ai, ea, oa), r-controlled vowels (ar, er, ir, or, ur) and contractions. Writing each word from memory forces a child to choose between the spellings rather than recognise one on a multiple-choice page.

My child reads fine but cannot spell. Is this the right level?
